(I didn't get to post this before I left so the date I wrote this on was July 7th. Oops?)
Nineteen years and 364 days old. On the day before my 20th birthday, I sit here in Rockefeller Center, facing NBC News. In another 20 years I plan to not sit here and look at it, but to be walking in as a part of my dial routine. As my close friends know, I'm all about the birthday's, but it truly makes me think about the past year and how my life has changed. Which doesn't make me upset but reflecting is somewhat humbling. You realize who has left your life, entered, touched you in any way, who has changed you, who has changed themselves, where you've been, what you've learned and most importantly, who have you become in that year.
This past year has absolutely been the biggest turning point in my life. Who knew that changing schools would change everything. Of course I still talk in random voices, I still have "the laugh", I still take at least a 20 minutes to decide what food to order but in terms of life, I don't think another school could have given me everything Syracuse has.
So, tomorrow as I turn 20, and leave my teenage years, I can finally, sitting in Rockefeller Center knowing myself more than I have in 20 years, say that I am truly an adult.
A very good friend H and I realized one night what we were looking for. Extraordinary things. That is why I chose that as the name of the blog. No matter what aspect of life you are talking about, there is always a connection with choosing to be ordinary or extraordinary.
I no longer feel like a kid lost in the city, as I did roaming around finding the Olive Garden with the 5 in Junior year of high school…There are no associations anymore…it's me, myself and I.
So I started the blog finally, but now I'll be away for the next week and a half. Really bad timing I guess. I'll be on vacation with the new boy and his family in Martha's Vineyard. This week will be an important learning experience for sure.
Happy Birthday to me (almost)--On to another year...!
